Book Review: TIDAL by Emily Snow

Title: Tidal
Author: Emily Snow

*New Adult Romance*
Now that Willow Avery is out of rehab, she’s got one chance left to prove herself before she’s officially on every producer’s shit list. At least, that’s what her parents and agent are claiming. She doesn’t really give a damn if she never makes another movie or not—she just wants to get on with her life, get back to her friends, and find her next escape. But Willow is broke. And whether she likes it or not, acting is the only job she knows how to do.
When she accepts the lead in a beach drama, Willow finds herself in Hawaii. And in Hawaii, she finds Cooper, the gorgeous surfer hired to train her for her new role. With the bluest eyes she’s ever seen and the sexiest Australian accent she’s ever heard, Cooper’s different from the men she’s used to. He doesn’t want to use her. And he refuses to let her fail. But when an old friend re-enters Willow’s life—a friend whose toxicity she’s been drawn to time and time before and whose presence brings about the painful memories she’s tried so hard to suppress—Willow will have to choose between the girl she was and the person she’s becoming. The lifestyle that helps her forget the pain and the guy she’s falling hard for.
Tidal. What an apropos name for this book. Not because it takes place in Hawaii with an hot Australian surfer, but because this book had me riding a bitchen wave of emotions! Seriously, I had no idea. This book has an epilogue that I can’t shake. The ending was simply the BEST ending of any book that I’ve read. Yes, of all the books that I’ve read… This. Is. My. Favorite. Ending.
Willow Avery is the Hollywood starlet with a tainted past. Sounds like a predictable character does it not? Oh Willow is anything but, she is an amazing multi layered individual with issues. She’s imperfect and riddled with self doubt. She craves approval. She’s been wounded, she even believes she’s damaged beyond repair, but she refuses to be broken. Through her, we experience the unfamiliar side of Hollywood and the life of a celebrity not depicted in tabloids.
Cooper Taylor hates everything Hollywood, and isn’t afraid to let his feelings be known. He is that straight forward, a pull-no-punches kind of man. We are completely aware of how he feels and what he wants, Cooper plays no games. He isn’t perfect, but in my opinion, he is damn near. He realizes early on that Willow is so much more. He falls for her, and he falls hard. He refuses to let her fail and continue to go through life alone.
“Don’t ever doubt me again, Willow. The whole time you’ve been here I’ve told you two things until I was blue in the face — that I’ll look after you and that I’m not wishy-washy. If you’ve got to go fix yourself, nothing that I feel for you changes. I won’t stop loving you.”
Emily Snow you have capsized me and I love you for it!! What a seamless story you have written. I adore the fact that you’ve given us a wounded heroine that refuses to become another statistic. I love that this story deals with real life issues with class and utmost compassion. I love that you’ve presented us with complex characters and an oh-so-hot romance. I love that you’ve given us a smoking male lead who is willing to fight for his girl, a man who believes and sees the good in her when others do not.
The end of this book slayed me. Utter perfection. If I wasn’t in love with Cooper prior to the epilogue (which I was), I didn’t have a chance. Are you KIDDING ME??!! I have read and re-read the conclusion too many times to count! Could that have been any more perfect??? Uhm… NO!!!!! I cried. I cried a whoa big ugly cry, not because I was sad… but because oh my, really?? What a flawless way to end the tale of an amazing love.
I glanced over my shoulder, meeting his blue eyes, and nodded quickly.
Unquestionably.
“Yes, ” I said.
I had never been more certain of anything in my life

ONLY FOR YOU
Book 1 of the For You Series
by Genna Rulon
Published: September 24, 2013
Category: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent.  It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.
When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded by her best friend to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, an explosive relationship is born.
Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant.  The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.
Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.
• This story is appropriate for readers 18+
• Though Only For You is a part of the For You Series, the book can be read as a stand-alone.
I glanced at the clock again—6:40 in the morning and I was awake.  I struggled to contain my frustration with Sam and reminded myself that she was my best friend, regardless of the inconvenient enrollment she made on my behalf.
Samantha Elizabeth Magdalena Whitney, Sam, grew up in a mansion on the North Shore of Long Island surrounded by every amenity.  She wanted for nothing, other than her parent’s attention and understanding.  It was the same old story—her father was absent physically and emotionally, and her mother tried to micromanage her life.  Sam emerged unscathed, no longer expecting her father’s regard, and disregarding her mother’s propaganda to follow her own path.  Sam lived life joyously, without pretention.
My mother was a ‘domestic’ at the Whitney estate, an ostentatious title synonymous with housekeeper.  It was a good position for a single mother, permitting her to work while I was at school and only requiring the occasional babysitter when the Whitneys hosted a special event.  The salary was conservative, but she was provided with a car and her compensation included health insurance for us both.
We only lived fifteen minutes apart, but we were in a different stratosphere.  Mom and I shared a small two-bedroom apartment in an older complex.  I wasn’t outfitted in designer labels, but I never had to hang my head in shame, either.  My mom strived to provide all of my needs and as many of my wants as was manageable.  She understood the importance of appearances to a young girl’s self-esteem, and creatively protected me from peer scrutiny.  We couldn’t afford store bought costumes, so each year she sewed my Halloween costume from old clothing she found at garage sales until I had a couture masterpiece—I always had the winning costume at the school parade.  As I grew older, she would find incredible vintage pieces at thrift stores, which my girlfriends coveted.  I can now appreciate the hours she must have invested into finding each discounted treasure, motivated by her love for me.  She even squirreled money away, a sacrifice I only later understood, to enable me to receive haircuts at a trendy salon.  She loved me fiercely and proved it not only in words, but also in actions.  It was only in recent years I could fully appreciate how blessed I was—what I lacked in trivial possessions was inconsequential compared to the vastness of her love and devotion.
Sam and I met shortly after Mom was hired by the Whitneys.  The school called the Whitney estate to advise Sam was sick but her mom was unavailable, in the city shopping, leaving my Mom to collect Sam from school and care for her.  Since the day was nearly over Mom brought me along, unable to arrange a sitter on such short notice.  I spent the afternoon keeping Sam company and we had been best friends ever since.
Sam demanded I join her dance class— according to Mrs. Whitney it was imperative that Sam study dance—and with no alternative to coax her participation, the Whitneys paid my tuition to accompany Sam.  It was Mom who taxied us, watched our rehearsal, and brought us home.  In fourth grade, Sam acquiesced to study piano if I joined her.  Unbeknownst to me, piano was another critical life skill that Sam must acquire, which meant I would acquire it as well.  In eighth grade, Sam refused to attend a prestigious enrichment summer camp unless I enrolled.  It was understood that if the Whitneys wanted Sam to endure any supercilious activity, it best include me to gain her cooperation.
Sam’s choice to attend the same university as me was the natural progression.  She could have attended any college in the world with her intellect, grades, and familial resources.  We applied to the same top ten ranked universities.  Sam’s dream was to move as far from her parent’s oppressive shadow as her admittance letters could provide, to discover life liberated from her family’s dogmata.  My acceptance would be determined by the university offering the greatest financial aid, as I was unwilling to burden my mom or myself with student loans.  I was accepted to all schools I applied, and Hensley was the highest-ranking institution to provide a full scholarship.  Sam was accepted to all schools she applied, with the exception of Yale—a slight she would never forgive.  When Sam learned I committed to Hensley, she shocked me by following suit.  She wanted to share the college experience with me and, after fifteen years of friendship, virtually sisters, separating would be akin to losing a limb.
The Whitneys were appalled at the prospect of Sam living in student dormitories.  Consequently, they bought a two-bedroom condominium in the most prestigious complex near to the school.  It was small, as all the apartments near school were, but luxurious.  Ever generous, Sam insisted I room with her rent-free to eliminate on-campus housing expenses.  I never could have foreseen Sam’s decision would be my saving grace.

Relaunch: Picturing Perfect by Melissa Brown (REVIEW and GIVEAWAYS)

Life may not turn out like we planned, but sometimes that’s what makes it perfect…
Hadley Foster has always been a planner. But, since the age of nineteen, things haven’t exactly gone according to plan… not at all. And the changes continue to mount when a trip to Europe with her best friend starts a domino effect in all aspects of her life. Suddenly, the future she had envisioned for herself seems unlikely to happen. It’s time to, make a new plan… or accept the dominoes as they fall.
Jason Kelly has a great life. He’s a successful self-published writer who’s living his dreams. But, something is missing. Hadley Foster. Letting her slip through his fingers is one of his biggest regrets. Over time, he had to accept the idea of being without his first love as he watched her fall in love with someone else.
When circumstances bring Jason and Hadley back into one another’s lives, they’re forced to deal with their past, their present and the possibility of a future together
So you are home and flipping through the cable guide and you happen upon that one movie…the one movie that watch over and over again. You can start it at 5 or 50 minutes in and you will still watch it. You know it by heart. Heck you even own it but you decide at that moment you need to watch it again commercials be damned! When I read a Melissa Brown book I get that feeling! Hopping on for a lawnmower ride into the sunset, testing the neighbors’ noise tolerance with a boom box placed above your head or kissing “the guy” over your one and only birthday cake rates right there with finishing Melissa Brown books! In Picturing Perfect, book three of the Love of My Life series, I am hearing the strings while walking into that school dance in hope of getting the guy and I am ready to pick the book back up at page 1 or even page 101!
Score one for the nerdy boys with Picturing Perfect. We got a taste of Jason in Champagne Toast and I am guessing after that you never looked at a graphic t-shirt the same way again because I know I don’t. Even though Jason had sights on Kate in Champagne Toast his heart was taken a very long time ago by none other than his baby sister’s best bud Hadley. As always time is no one’s friend and each of them have found paths to follow that lacked what they needed most, each other. When life throws them back together they are forced to deal with the issues of the past and what the future may bring. Both Hadley and Jason have created a life without each other based on miss understands and once the truth is laid out will they both be able to see what was in front of them all along?
Ok I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! Oh wait…did I say I loved it…no I live for this book! I so fell for Jason in Champagne Toast because he is so the guy I want! Sweet, yummy, kind, and just an all-around good person. There are parts in this book that I awww’ed out loud and said to myself why can’t real guys be like book boyfriends! SO NOT FAIR!!! Thank you Melissa Brown for creating these men! Let’s not forget about the girls! Hadley is just perfect! I so related to her! She was strong and although life may not have been perfect she pulled herself up and did what was best for her. With Hadley and Jason Melissa has created two characters that not only have you cheering their every move but characters you want to call your best friend. This is a beautiful modern love story that proves love doesn’t have to be perfect to be real. Some call Melissa Brown the Queen of Romance but it is so much more than that. After reading Picturing Perfect I found that she not only gives us love but she gives us hope. Hope for change and finding what makes you happy. Creating stories that you want to read over and over again! I am so looking forward to book four in the Love of My Life Series that I maybe stalking her till I get it and after you read Picturing Perfect you may be doing the same!!

Blog Tour: Give Me Strength by Katie McCarthy (review and giveaways)

Title: Give Me Strength (Give Me #2)
Author: Kate McCarthy
Genre: Romantic Suspense 18+
Publication Date: September 16, 2013
Cover Designed By: Cover Design: Okay Creations

Quinn Salisbury doesn’t think she’s cut out for this whole living thing. Even as a young girl she struggled. Just when she thinks she’s found a way to leave her violent past behind her, the only thing that’s kept her going is ripped away, leaving her damaged and heartbroken.
Four years later, she is slowly rebuilding her life and lands a job as an assistant band manager to Jamieson, the hot new Australian act climbing their way to the top of the charts. There she meets Travis Valentine, the charismatic older brother of her boss, Mac.
From his commanding charm to his confidence and passion, Travis is everything Quinn believes is too good for her, and despite her apprehension, she finds their attraction undeniable and intense.
When her past resurfaces, it complicates their relationship. Instead of reaching out for help, Quinn pushes Travis away, until a staggering secret is revealed that leaves her fighting for her very life.
Torn between running and opening her heart to the man determined to have her, can Quinn find the strength within herself to fight for her future?

Superb! I really enjoyed this book. I felt like I was getting four stories and 8 lives entwined in one and Kate McCarthy did a great job conveying everyone’s emotions.

Quinn was definitely emotionless in the beginning but her being emotionless and stern stems from her background and from all the tragic things that happened to her in the past. Losing the only person who had loved and accepted her; the only person who has showed her things in life that worth living; teaching her how to trust and love again, Quinn has little left that she cares about. Only until she met the one person who revives that kind of feeling, Travis.

“I was too damaged for someone like Travis–broken, missing pieces that would never be found, and put back together in a way that never quite fit properly.”

Travis was made so deliciously that I could rip him from the pages of the book. His character brings a lot of energy and passion to the story, and his strong views in life and his heartfelt attempts to protect and do what’s right are endearing and contagious.

“Life is hard, Quinn, and the hardest part is being yourself in a world of people trying to make you someone you’re not.”

“I want to see you smile, and I want to touch you again and feel you burn brighter than the sun while I’m doing it.”

These two characters get into what feels like authentic passion but Quinn keeps on running, because it’s the only way she knew she could protect her friends and loved ones from the impending danger caused by her past. She has this stubborn wall that was a bit hard to break down but Travis took matters into his hands and did a bit of chasing.

“But I can only fight for you for so long before you have to start fighting for yourself, and for us, and it hurts that you won’t even try. I know I said I’d be strong for you, and I always will be whether you want me to or not, but you have to be strong too because I need you just as much.”

Ms. McCarthy’s writing is sharp and to the point. At first it may seem like it’s just a light-hearted and “cotton candy” read, but not at all. It has deep meaning, morals, and at times will make you smile & laugh. I truly love how the story concluded because their love was almost a tearjerker. Loving someone regardless of what they bring to the table was nice to see. Travis and Quinn’s love story had a certain build up and certain parts that would make you feel frustrated because you are really routing for their love to prevail.

“You gave me everything that helped me find myself. Your support gave me confidence, your determination made me fight, and your strength helped me find my own.”

I always find it a plus point when I’m reading a story within a story. Mac, Evie, Henry, Cooper, Tim, Casey, Jared, Lucy and the rest of the supporting characters created a good chemistry and made the story even more interesting. A perfect way to weave in and out between the main characters. There’s just something about them that I absolutely love that readers will be quickly drawn and would want to learn more about these spunky characters.

Give Me Strength will not disappoint you. I fell in love with everyone and the meaning behind the story.

If you are after a story with fun, great characters with real emotions; something that is easy to relate to and easy to feel, then this impressive and incredible book is the right one for you.

4 HEARTWARMING STARS!!!

Promo Post and Excerpt: UNATTAINABLE (Undeniable #3) by Madeline Sheehan

UNATTAINABLE (Undeniable #3)

Warning: This is not a virtuous and tender love story. It’s chaotic, ruthless, and tragic. This story takes love and kills its innocence, steals away the pure moments, and crushes the hearts of the broken. A story born in childhood, tying one girl to one boy, leads to a destructive path—that hurts more than it doesn’t, that shatters more than it heals—testing the love that binds the two through a lifetime.
Tegen Matthews is the daughter of Dorothy Kelley, a club whore in the Hell’s Horsemen. A plain little girl, Tegen falls into the gritty world of the motorcycle club. When she meets a sweet, caring boy, she embraces the warmth and affection he shows her. Cage West is the son of the president of the Hell’s Horsemen. Tall and blond with deep brown eyes, as he grows up Cage realizes the power of his dimpled smile and smooth drawl. With one chance encounter, Tegen becomes forever tied to Cage. Following is a wayward journey that is filled with regrets, mistakes, and heartache, pulling at the threads that hold them together. Cage and Tegen fight hard but love harder, and in the end, what matters is where the journey takes one girl and one boy, who have been twined with one another since the beginning.
This is Tegen and Cage’s story.
Love doesn’t erase a broken heart, and it sure doesn’t change people. But no matter how old, how flimsy, how frayed the rope of love is, it keeps you tethered to the people you love.

Once again in town, Dirty pulled off to the side of the road and cut his engine. Toeing his kickstand down, he swung his leg over his bike and stood up straight. While looking around the dark and quiet street he lived on, he reached into his cut and pulled out his smokes. Miles City had been perfect. The polar opposite of New York City and all the nightmares that place held inside of it. He could breathe here most of the time, and ride for hours, just him and the road. A shrill, terror-filled scream followed by the distinctive thump/slap of fist meeting flesh broke the small-town silence, tearing through the empty streets, emptying into the surrounding mountains, and Dirty felt his skin pebble with goose bumps. Another scream, this one garbled, more choked than the first, then another pounding of flesh, and then…silence. Dirty had a well-practiced poker face. Aside from Deuce, no one, not one motherfucker out there, could see through his bullshit. He could throw down with the best of his brothers, beat a motherfucker senseless, kill him without a second thought, his stare as coldhearted as the rest. He’d done deplorable things to a shit ton of people, men and women alike, and never once did he so much as bat a fucking eyelash at his actions. Until he was alone. Because when he was alone he could shake, he could tremble, he could scream and yell, he could punch the walls, he could punch himself. Alone, he could cry. Alone, he could let the fear out and, Jesus fuck, there was so much fear. He lived and breathed fear…every day, every night, all the motherfucking time. It was fear ruling him that had made him what he’d become. That had turned him into the sort of monster he’d most hated. And it was all that fear inside of him, coursing through his veins, pounding in his heart, making him sweat even more fear. It was fear that had him tossing his cigarette aside, fear that had him running down the desolate sidewalk, fear that had him turning down a dimly lit alleyway. It was fear that had him skidding to a stop, taking in the scene in front of him. And it was fear that had him pulling his piece and, with shaking hands, trying to blow a hole straight through someone else’s nightmare, a nightmare that was a fuck of a lot similar to one of his own.

HOPELESS FOR YOU by Hayden Hill is now out.

Ash Jensen, a squeaky-clean sophomore at the University of Tennessee, has a trail of baggage a mile long — she buried her fiancé only a year and a half ago. She swore she’d never love again but when she finds herself interned to a yummy Canadian conservation officer that promise is tested big-time. Kade Gyllenhahl sports wild tattoos, a rebellious attitude and a fohawk to die for. He’s definitely the wrong man for her and she knows it.
Kade doesn’t have time for a girl like her. She’s a pretentious, unreadable princess who lives her life by her parents’ rules. Kade knows nothing about her past and he’d prefer to keep it that way. Besides, he’ll lose his job if he sleeps with Ash. Now if only he could get his mind off her.
When the two of them end up alone and isolated on a routine field trip into the woods, things get a little complicated…
One man afraid of commitment.
One woman afraid to love again.
Two lives.
Two hearts.
One life-changing journey.

“You like vodka?” Kade said.
“What?” I glanced at him uncertainly. “That’s kind of an odd question. From way out in left field.”
“You’re half Russian.” He was staring at me intensely. “You must like vodka.”
“Oh, no.” I returned his gaze with equal intensity. Had he felt that tingle when our hands touched, too? Our conversation was all innocent on the outside but I could sense the sexual tension seething on the inside. Neither of us broke eye contact. He wasn’t sitting all that far from me. It wouldn’t take much to close the gap and wrap my lips around his. “I had vodka once when I was in tenth grade. Almost threw up. Scotch is more my thing.”
“Scotch? That’s a man’s drink.”
I shrugged, but didn’t break eye contact. “Not really.”
“Any preferred brands?” His voice sounded deeper, more sexual. I was starting to lose myself in those eyes.
“I don’t know.” My voice sounded strange, too. A little breathy. “All kinds of brands. I don’t like Jack Daniels, though.”
“That’s not even scotch. That’s whiskey.”
“Same thing.”
Kade stood up now and edged a little closer. His eyes never left mine. “How can you not like Jack Daniels? That’s, like, a Tennessee institution. They make it there, don’t they?”
“They do.” My heart was beating fast. “But Collier and McKeel is more my thing.”
“How do you know so much about all these drinks, anyway?” he said in that deep, slow voice. “The legal age is twenty-one in Tennessee.”
I knew my eyes were broadcasting sheer want. He felt it. I’m sure he did, because his eyes fed that want right back at me. “I’m a delinquent.”
“You are.” He took another step closer. I could hear his breathing now. Deeper. Faster. “Collier and McKeel… remind me to let you try Seagram’s 83 sometime. Canadians make the best whiskey. Perfect for a delinquent like you.”
“I’m actually more of a wine person. At least I used to be.” We were so close now, barely a hand-span away. Those green eyes never left mine, and consumed me.
“Wine? I can see that. I’d peg you as a fan of white. You speak Sauvignon Blanc?” The way he said those French words sounded so sexy.
“I speak champagne,” I said huskily. “Dom Perignon makes the most amazing Cristal. White Gold is–” I choked off the words, feeling suddenly like I was drowning, and I turned away from Kade. I couldn’t hold back the sudden tears.
After all this time, something so simple as the name of a drink still affected me. I almost hoped Kade would wrap his arms around me and carry me away from the horrors of the past and save me from the guilt, but when I looked at him I saw he’d retreated to the shade again. He was sitting on the log with his arms crossed, facing away from me, staring at the river.

Anne Leigh is a 30-something-year-old who refuses to let the calendar dictate her age. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Nursing. She likes to write about strong women and equally strong guys who grapple with their emotions when faced with something as intangible as love.
She lives in Los Angeles with her husband. With her crazy schedule, she gets frustrated at L.A. traffic and needs an escape to keep her sanity, which her characters provide.
She did not think of publishing her stories and when she finally did, she’s truly appreciative of every, single person who found the time to let her characters become parts of their world.
She appreciates all the readers who leave kind comments/reviews on where they purchased the book because without them, all her stories would remain locked up in her computer.

COMING SPRING 2013

PROLOGUE

What is fate? Or destiny?

Do we each have a predestined plan? A path to follow on our journey, mapped out long before us?

Does someone, something, somewhere, already know what hasn’t yet come to pass? Are words such as chance, fortune and luck, just words? Are we all just pawns in a game being played by a force of power, so much bigger than us, a force so great, so unfathomably paramount that we, as mere humans, simply do not have the ability to comprehend it?
What if the answer was yes?
What if every step we’ve taken, every choice, every mistake we’ve make, every success, every sad or happy moment in our lives, every person we’ve met, every feeling, every emotion we’d ever experienced, every single breath we’ve taken, our first and our last…
What if every single moment of our lives was, is, will be –no matter who you are, poor or wealthy, famous, criminal, loved or hated – what if it was all an inevitability, a foreordination, utterly uncontrollable by us?
Would it still be worth it?

“You’re beautiful, Tayhra,” Shandor growled softly, releasing her hair to cup the side of her head and face.
Confused, she froze beneath him.
“The face of a goddess,” he said forcefully, “With the body of a whore. Fată, you’re a goddamn work of art.
Red eyes blinked up at him. Once, twice, three times.
“You’re the sort of beautiful a man doesn’t just want to fuck; you’re the kind a man wants to watch fall apart beneath him and know that it was him who broke her.”
