When Sophie Jameson first became a domme at Club 1740, it was more out of financial necessity than it was for personal pleasure and sexual exploration. But over the years as she rocked her leather corsets and boots while wielding every crop and flogger imaginable, she grew to love the thrill and adulation that her clients brought her. But all along, her path in life and her heart was with a different profession—one she was planning to embark on at the summer’s end.
And then he changed everything. Tall, dark, impossibly built—William was the complete opposite of whatever image a male sub conjured up. After all the subs, Sophie finally felt true lust and desire. Although he was the proud stallion who needed breaking, he became the one to make her break all her rules and let down all her walls.
But it was just supposed to be for that one night, but an accidental encounter days later outside Club 1740’s protected walls had the two seeing each other in a different light—as simply Sophie and William, not Domme and sub. While they should have parted ways, they couldn’t. While they should never have gone back to her place, they did.And that simple mistake has a serious price for both of them.
This is a story that has been told before but the characterization and in depth dialogue made it one of a kind that surely surpass the average. The brilliant story telling of Ms. Ashley definitely won me over. Nothing new under the sun and yet I felt like I was reading romance for the first time, falling in love with two great characters and watching with a happy sigh as they fell in love. The strengths of the story are in the strong characters that you sympathize with and perhaps secretly envy a little, and in the dialogue that’s realistic, witty, and funny. I was in awe of William and Sophie and enjoyed their characters so much. I’d say Katie did a great job in giving the world of BDSM a different taste, a whole new meaning.
Subordination is really hot and much more than what I expected. There is an actual storyline that is well constructed, entertaining and includes one of most steamy, satisfying love scenes you will ever read. William not only talks a good game, he shows Sophie how much he wants her, and he wants to see that same desire for him in her eyes. A man that is willing to please and satisfy and all he requires is that Sophie give him her heart.
This is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed and hated to see the story end. As always, I enjoyed Katie’s writing style…raging passion and heartfelt emotions. I highly recommend this sweet erotic romance to everyone who likes their endings happy without being inundated with too much sugary sweetness, and to those who appreciate realistic characters falling for one another and making things work despite their fears and reservations. Truly a must read!
“Relationships are like a battlefield-they’re bloody and painful and frightening. Just as the landscape of a battlefield is altered and scarred, so are relationships. But it’s because of what happens on that battlefield that defines greatness.”
This book was surprisingly different from the others that Katie Ashley has written. I have not read any books with a Domme, but I believe Katie Ashley did it justice. It was hot, to say the least. I actually really enjoyed the scenes where Mistress Juliette was in control. As a dominate female myself, I like how Sophie is portrayed in this book. I also like that the submissive William is respected, not emasculated and I just swooned over how he was with Sophie.
For a BDSM book, I would say this is “light”. It has so much depth delivered in the story itself, but the BDSM moments are hot, steamy and very arousing. I enjoyed this book immensely and cried very ugly tears at the 93% mark. Katie Ashley did it again by making my heart hurt and the tears flow.
