Blog Tour: Surviving Broken by Beverly Preston (Review and Giveaway)

TITLE: SURVIVING BROKEN (A Mathews Family Novel Book 4)
AUTHOR: BEVERLY PRESTON
BUY FROM AMAZON

Most women have a wish list when it comes to what kind of man they want to date. JC Mathews used a strict set of guidelines as a safety net to keep herself out of trouble and out of love.
On hiatus from the bright lights and speculative gazes of her career in the fashion industry, JC lets her guard down…only to the wrong man. After escaping Italy and the hands of her abuser, she returns to Malibu to recover. The last thing she expects to find is a large, gorgeous intruder swimming naked in her pool.
Reed Rider left Texas and his broken heart behind in order to settle his aunt’s affairs after her death. Seeking refuge from the California heat for a midnight swim in his neighbor’s backyard, he never expects to find a nude silhouette of a long-haired beauty standing at the water’s edge.
As their passion ignites and the pages of JC’s rulebook fade to grey, she unlocks her guarded heart to begin a new chapter in her life. When hidden truths are exposed and secrets unravel, will they survive the threats from their broken pasts?

Rating: ★★★★★

Every once in a while a series comes along that just leaves a smile on your soul, The Mathews Family Series by Beverly Preston does just that. All of these books can be read as stand alones, but their stories do intertwine. I’ve been a fan of Beverly’s since book one. She’s got an amazing knack for making you feel like you’re one of the family. Her word choices and vivid imagery have you traveling to all of the places she writes about, you’re there with the characters for every step. Never has a series made me appreciate my life and my family the way that this one has. I have always been a proponent of everything happens for a reason, and her books simply solidified that for me.
In Surviving Broken, the fourth book and my favorite by far, the gang comes full circle. This installment focuses on the spitfire that is JC. This is her story, and man what a story. I will warn you, there is some tough subject matter in this book but Beverly handles it with perfect decorum. One scene is very difficult to sit through, but honestly, not one word could have been changed. It needed to be said just the way it played out. Perfectly. In walks Reed Rider… what can be said about him? Dreamy southern gentleman with class, wearing a good ‘ole pair of Levi’s. Swoon. Reed’s life hasn’t been a bowl of peaches. Together Reed and JC learn to trust, not only helping each other heal, but finding an amazing love story along the way. You can’t help but adore this couple and the journey they take you on.
When I finished this book I let out an audible sigh through my happy tears and smile. The ending was amazingly heartfelt and poignant. Beverly put pieces together I hadn’t even noticed were missing. The unconditional love of a family and what makes a family a unit, was beautifully orchestrated in the perfect final act. If there is such a thing as a perfect moment, this was it. It simply doesn’t get any better.

“Sometimes you have to go through hell to find your heaven.”

#1 Amazon Bestselling Author Beverly Preston has been a stay at home mom for 21 years, although she prefers the title Domestic Engineer, raising her four amazing kids. As her children begin to venture out on their own, she’s left to shed a tear–for a minute–wonder what’s next in life, and embrace the feeling of empowerment that surely must’ve been wrapped in a present she received on her fortieth birthday.
If Beverly isn’t at home riding her spin bike, you’ll find her spinning richly emotional and sinfully sexy romance stories.

Book Blitz: Beloved by Corinne Michaels @authorcmichaels

Title: Beloved
Author: Corrine Michaels

Not enough.
Catherine Pope has never been enough. Every man she has ever loved abandoned her—from her father to her fiancé. She finally accepted the fact she would never be enough to hold any man’s heart and soul.
Then Catherine met Jackson Cole.
When her world literally collided with the sexy former Navy SEAL, everything she always believed is turned upside down and left scattered. He made her feel alive and desirable, consumed her with fierceness and loyalty—which completely unnerved her. Jackson got her in a way no one ever had, giving him the power to destroy her.
If she breaks down and gives him what’s left of her battered heart—will he protect it? Or will Catherine become an irrelevant part of yet another man’s life?
Will she get the one thing that has always evaded her – to finally be someone’s beloved?

Random Facts about Beloved
#1 Jackson’s name was not always Jackson Cole.. up until about 2 weeks before it went to the editor it was Jackson Grant
#2 I rewrote the entire first 4 chapters 2 weeks before it went to the editor.
#3 Jackson was NEVER supposed to be a Navy SEAL.. If I showed you my original outline you’d probably ask when I was going to write that book.
#4 I have about 25,000 words in deleted scenes.
#5 Each of the men’s names (other than Jackson) are named after actual SEALs we know in our life
#6 I have actually done that obstacle course .. ish I think I may have blacked out after.
#7 The girls names are all middle names of my friends … If I ran out (or didn’t like) the middle names their last names are there so I have a special place for each person.
#8 I knew the ending of Beloved and that’s when everything in the MS changed.
#9 I HAVE to write to music! If I don’t I can’t write more than 100 words. Yet I can’t read to music! Weird.
#10 All of the “places” they go are real. There is really the restaurant they go to (I had my 30th there).. the lighthouse really does over look the bridge/tunnel … I’m going to visit next month and I want to take pictures.
#11 I was a Navy wife for 13 years so all the things they talk about with “manning the rails” or getting on base and especially Jackson’s childhood are all very realistic. I wanted it that way. It’s how we live.
#12 My best friend’s husband is a SEAL, I’ve watched her go through so much and I tried to really portray some of the things she went through…
#13 The prologue is actually my 9th bday
#14 The prank wars are all real. I promise! Military guys are all HUGE into initiations and the pepper spray really did happen to my husband. I hate his friend still.
#15 My ex did in fact cheat on me but no I never walked in on it.
#16 The ending was supposed to be Mark not Aaron, but I loved Mark so much I couldn’t do it.

Corinne is an emotional, witty, sarcastic, and fun loving mom of two beautiful children. She’s happily married to the man of her dreams and is a former Navy wife. After spending months away from her husband while he was deployed, reading and writing was her escape from the loneliness.

When reserved flight attendant Bianca gets one look at billionaire hotel owner James Cavendish, she loses all of her hard-won composure. For a girl who can easily juggle a tray of champagne flutes at 35,000 feet in three inch heels, she finds herself shockingly weak-kneed from their first encounter. The normally unruffled Bianca can’t seem to look away from his electrifying turquoise gaze. They hold a challenge, and a promise, that she finds impossible to resist, and she is a girl who is used to saying no and meaning it.
Bianca is accustomed to dealing with supermodels and movie stars in her job as a first class flight attendant, but James Cavendish puts them all to shame in the looks department. If only it were just his looks that she found so irresistible about the intimidating man, Bianca could have ignored his attentions. But what tempts her like never before is the dominant pull he seems to have over her from the moment they meet, and the promise of pleasure, and pain, that she reads in his eyes.

Bad Things (Tristan & Danika #1)

Add to Goodreads

Danika hasn’t had an easy life. Being insanely attracted to bad boys has never helped make it easier.
One look at Tristan, and every brain cell she possessed went up in smoke. This man was trouble with a capital T. It was a given.
She knew better. Bad boys were bad. Especially for her. Considering her history, it was crazy to think otherwise. So why did crazy have to feel so damn fine?
For as long as she could remember, Danika had been focused on the future with single-minded purpose. Tristan came along and taught her everything there was to know about letting go, and living in the present. She fell, hard and deep. Of course, that only made her impact with the ground that much more devastating.
Bad Things is about Tristan and Danika, and their train wreck of a love story. This series can be read as a standalone, or with the Up in the Air series.

Stay. Stay with me. Stay here. Stay close. Stay like this forever. Stay as happy as I am right here in your arms, always.
* * *
All I’ve ever wanted was to be loved, but if this is what true love is…I’m not so sure I want it anymore. It also makes me wonder if any of my memories of our once happy marriage are even real. Maybe I just conjured up the fairy tale in my head because I wanted…no…needed it so much. Who the hell knows?
“Molly just called to remind you about your book club meeting this afternoon.” He turns away. “I told her you’ve never missed a meeting and I doubt today would be any different.”
The door shuts behind him before I let a smile creep across my lips. Instantly, the hurt from this morning flees my mind and I feel nothing but giddiness. I have a book club meeting today, and let’s just say it’s not your everyday book club.
Sure, my husband may never truly love me again…but who needs love when you’re about to get an eyeful of hot firemen?
* * *
Tell Me You Love Me is the first in a four-book series called Fire Me Up—a sweet romantic comedy series about a group of sassy neighborhood women who have a serious love for steamy romance novels and sexy firemen. Lucky for them the local firehouse is just a few steps away and is in no shortage of hot firefighters to fill their wild imaginations.

“Nice to meet you, Lizzy.” I know the other guys called her Liz, but with her sweet face, smile, and that sassy mouth Liz doesn’t do her justice. Yeah, that mouth has me thinking all sorts of other things about her. I take her soft hand in mine and hold onto it a little bit longer than I should.
“Hey, Ryan. Welcome to the club.” Her eyes linger on mine for a few seconds. She’s the first to look away and I’m happy for it because I don’t know that I could have. I sure didn’t want to let go of her hand. I haven’t felt the stare of a woman in a long time, but I know when one is checking me out, and she definitely was. Not only that, but she likes that I’m looking at her too. I can tell. I can sense it with her uneven breaths and the flush of her cheeks. That sort of thing does a lot for a man’s ego and I welcome it.
She’s had me on edge since we first reached the midway point to the top of the hill. I observed each of the women as soon as we walked up and she’s the one who completely held my attention. Her long deep auburn hair, pulled high in a loose ponytail. Her green eyes bright and playful. The other women looked too made up and appeared to have spent time at the salon before coming out today. But not Lizzy, she’s so relaxed like she’s ready to head out for a day at the ball field.
I like that about her.
And I also liked her talking about my cock, if we’re being honest. Fuck if that doesn’t have me thinking about her mouth again.
Most women would prefer to use a different word, but cock slides off her tongue like a pro. I glance at her pink lips and instantly my pants tighten, wondering if she can handle more than just the word.
I grasp the cold water in my hand hoping it will act like a iced cold shower for my overactive hormones. It’s been longer than I can remember since a woman has had this effect on me.
“Okay, enough dick talk.” Austin tosses a few strawberries into his mouth. “Drink up, fellas. We gotta hump it.”
“I thought we were done with the dick talk,” the older one says. I think her name is Molly. “Men, I tell you. It always comes back to your peckers.”
I shake my head at that one as the rest of the group chuckles. Ain’t that the truth. For most men, it’s been about our junk since the first time we jacked off. Shit, maybe longer. My mom says she’d always catch me sleeping with my hand in my pants from the moment I graduated to big boy pajamas. Her choice of words, not mine. She still loves to tease me about it.
We toss our bottles into the recycling bin and pull our Air Packs onto our backs before heading out.
“Bye bye, boys,” Lizzy says. I turn back to steal a look at her again. The other women are chatting with each other, but not her. She’s looking at me too.

Blog Tour Review and Giveaway: PULLED by A.L. Jackson @aljacksonbooks @InkSlingerPR

Title: Pulled

Author: A.L. Jackson

Melanie Winters and Daniel Montgomery shared a love most only dream of, a love they believed bonded them together for life.
When their world is shattered by the tragic loss of their daughter, overwhelming grief and misguided guilt distorts the truth, and their relationship ends in uncertainty and unanswered questions.
For nine years, they drift through life, each unable to forget the one who holds the strings to their heart. In an attempt to escape the pain of her past, Melanie finds herself trapped in a loveless marriage, while Daniel loses himself in a career that means nothing without Melanie by his side.
Now, when their lives again intersect, neither can deny the connection they felt so long ago. But will the power that drew them together be enough to heal the wounds from their past, and will they have the courage to overcome the insecurities and fears that threaten to keep them apart?
Pulled is a story of attraction and separation, of destiny and duty, of a love so strong it refuses to give up even when all others have.
“Okay, this one did it for me in a big way. I’m an angst-lover. And by that I mean, I’m a Thoughtless, Beautiful Disaster, Love Unscripted, Slammed, Fifty Shades of Everything, kind of reader. But there’s gotta be an HEA. And not a half-done HEA but a real yeah-this-story-has-been-agonizing-but-look-it-was-all-worth-it HEA. So, that said, I earnestly recommend this book. If you’re like me, you’ll like this. Enjoy!” LitJunkie

Rating: ★★★★ 1/2
Oh man, the layers of grief in this book! I have read Pulled last year but didn’t have the Push to write a review on it. So when I learned that Amy is running a blog tour for it, I took the chance to re-read and relive the painful moments of Melanie and Daniel.
My heart feels exactly what it felt the first time. Your heart feels like it was hammered, twisted and punted across a field. Grief is a really, really hard thing to explain, as someone who has grieved a devastating loss myself, but somehow A.L. Jackson just nails it. Just brilliantly and right through the heart.
Pulled focuses on Melanie and Daniel and their little family who have endured a painful tragedy. A tragedy that has ripped the family apart. Forced to confront the brokenness and emptiness, they both moved on with their lives. But fate has its own tricky ways of throwing something in front of you you’ve never expected. After nine dreadful years of trying to escape the past, their paths crossed again in unexpected circumstance that brought a sudden rise of emotion and a state of euphoria followed by a deep melancholic feeling of something “long gone missing”.

“Never had I wanted to comfort anyone more. I wanted to call his name, to touch his face, to taste his lips. I wanted to assure him that my love for him was unending. I wanted to promise we could heal together. I wanted to forgive him, to forget about the past, to  move one. There was one simple fact that held me back…He didn’t want me anymore.”

Overwhelmed by the intensity of their reconnection, Daniel and Melanie are taken by each other very soon after their first meeting…again. Feelings resurfacing like wildfire. A wow moment for me! Their chemistry is still so strong, and even though there was this ticking time bomb in the background, I felt like this moment, any moments they shared together, would prove to be so effective and memorable no matter the endgame.

Will Daniel and Melanie take the chance to reignite the passions of their youth when they’re both buried deep beneath all the ups & downs of their current lives and its demands? Will they allow themselves to be PULLED back into a world that no longer exists?

“Somewhere deep within me, something was beginning to fight that. I didn’t know how and I didn’t know why, but what I did know was a change was coming.”

There’s a lot of backstory for both characters and it did take quite some time for me to get swept into it but I’m so happy that I stuck with it because the writing is utterly beautiful and I could legitimately picture these settings in my head and hear the voices of Daniel and Melanie so clearly.
Amy changes the lives of both of her characters and not in ways I totally expected either. Pulled is a unique story of moving forward, embracing independence, making tough decisions, and discovery. Some of it is beautiful, and some of it is messy and Amy doesn’t feel she needs to tie everything up in a pretty package. I really appreciated that even if that meant my heart breaking at times. Despite the enchanting feel of the story, Pulled is rooted in some tough realism for all of the characters and I was ridiculously impressed by their strength, their honesty, and their blunders.

“I loved every broken piece of her and was determined to make her whole again”
“She was mine. Only mine.”

“I’ll never let you go again, Melanie .Never. Nothing will come between us…nothing.”

Pulled is yet another A.L. Jackson masterpiece. A beautiful and gut-wrenching story of loss, the enduring bonds of family and friendship amidst tragedy and the kind of healing that can only come with the help of the ones we love.

Book Review: PRICELESS by RAINE MILLER

Title: Priceless
Author: Raine Miller
Released: Sept. 12, 2014
Buy Amazon | iTunes | B&N | KOBO
Ivan Everley, 13th Baron Rothvale, would admit he’s the last person on earth who should have custody over a priceless collection of art. British law affords him the title of ‘Lord,’ but underneath all the trappings he’s just a regular guy, despite being a world champion in archery, and certain…proclivities of a private nature. But Ivan’s public celebrity is merely a sham–a carefully guarded secret borne out of the pain of betrayal. Even his cousin Ethan Blackstone doesn’t know the truth behind the man he considers a brother.
Lord Rothvale has a plethora of problems piled up to his aristocratic eyeballs, but that doesn’t stop him from complicating his world further when a beautiful art conservationist shows up to appraise his inherited collection of paintings. Once Ivan gets a taste of Gabrielle Hargreave, mistaken identity or not, he can’t think of anything but how good the green-eyed beauty felt in his arms.
The chase is on, and Ivan’s dominant side isn’t taking ‘no’ for an answer–but yet, Gabrielle might just teach our discontented lord a thing or two about life, and about himself, and help them both discover the undeniable truth in what it means to find something genuinely… priceless.

Rating: ★★★★★

In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.
Like this lake at night with the moon and stars shining overhead.

You know how much I rave about Raine Miller’s books especially that of the Blackstone Affair Series, but after reading Priceless, I can officially declare that this is my new favorite book of hers. I don’t know. There’s just something about Gaby and Ivan’s story that was just straight-up excellent. Not overly dramatic and emotional but its exactly what I needed to read right now.
Obviously besides Raine’s storytelling abilities, what really drove this story for me are the characters. What phenomenal characters! Gosh I just loved them! I feel like I haven’t read a book in a while where I felt upon finishing the book, the characters were just clamoring to get out and linger in my heart a while longer. Raine Miller really knows how to write those kind of hearts-are-beating, blood-flowing-through-the-veins characters that are just so alive.
Gabrielle “Gaby” Hargreave. Oh I loved her so much! She is a great character that I felt like just leapt off the page. She felt really authentic and seemed like a normal girl that anyone could relate to on some level. She was hilarious and strong yet I could feel there’s more to her story. I really did wish though that I got to know MORE of her. I need more of her! But I suspect we will get a REAL sense of who she is in the next book.

I was somehow different.
I couldn’t give in to those normal kinds of wants and desires that most girls have.
But we are creatures of habit, and are who we’re born to be. This was me- the real Gabrielle Hargreave. And as disgraceful and abhorrent it felt to accept the idea, it didn’t make the situation any less true. You reap what you sow, Gabrielle. Yeah, I’d learned my lesson the hard way.

I loved Gaby obviously but Lord Condemnation Ivan was to die for. OH MY GOD. I would have been a heaping pile of mess sitting next to him. He’s a very prominent part of the society and just exactly what most girls would love to have ~ he has the money, a gorgeous face and alluring body. He isn’t without flaws but it’s so hard not to like him. And when he wants something, he never stops until he gets it ~ just like Gabrielle Hargrieve. There’s something in her that made him feel something he had never felt for a long time. So he will do everything to get another taste of her, whatever it takes.

I know myself pretty well. When I want something, I won’t stop until I’ve conquered the challenge. Right now, my challenge was a green-eyed beauty that had, for whatever reason, bewitched this evening.

I cannot WAIT to see where the next book will take their relationship! Clearly they started out the wrong foot. But no matter how hard Gaby tries to avoid him, DESTINY brought them back together. Gaby unknowingly ticked the change in Ivan; his neediness, possessiveness and control. But is Gaby ready to fall too fast? Can she handle this strong feelings that Ivan has started to build for her?

His expression was one of adoration, respect, desire.
I wanted to stay with him. I wanted to be the object of his desire.
I told myself not to give into weakness, and not to allow the mistakes I’d made rule me.
Perhaps it was too late for me
Perhaps I was already falling.

Is Ivan ready to trust his heart with someone and do it all over again?

Gabrielle Hargreave pushed all of my buttons and in just the right way.
I was pretty sure I pushed hers as well, even if she wasn’t ready to admit it just yet.
And for the first time in a very long while, I could say that I felt really goddamn…happy for once.

The unraveling of their story was just so absorbing and Ivan Everley got me BAD. Tthey have an innate sense of connection and were completely drawn to each other. And I am EXTREMELY HUNGRY to see more of that!

A woman who knows what she wants and knows how to ask for it.

I don’t want you gentle. I want to feel you over me -inside me. I want that, Ivan.

Told in alternating POVs, Priceless is a book that shot a line straight to my heart from the beginning and I was so thoroughly enchanted with Ivan and Gaby’s messy yet utterly romantic story. A story complete with moments that make your heart pitter patter and swoon in the midst of the obvious tension. There’s sex, yes, but it’s not overwhelming at all.

The most delightful surprise about this novel was how FUNNY it was. It’s so witty and peppered with humor and it just made it such a feel good read. One of the parts that made me snort laugh is when Ivan texted his admin assistant. And NO! Don’t expect me to tell you what happened. You have to read the book and experience the whole laughing part.

I mega loved this book and highly recommend it. It is a fantastic story that I’ve anticipated for a while and of course it didn’t disappoint. If you are looking for something to fall in love with, a story with such amazing characters that will have you immersed into their lives slowly but surely and emotions that will make a way into your heart, this book is definitely the perfect pick. Beautiful, finely written, just PRICELESS!

Trust me, Gabrielle. I want you here. Very Much.
I want you submissive when we fuck, Gabrielle. I want so badly to have that…with you.

Raine Miller has been reading romance novels since she picked up that first Barbara Cartland book at the tender age of thirteen. And it’s a safe bet she’ll never stop, because now she writes them too! Granted Raine’s stories are edgy enough to turn Ms. Cartland in her grave, but to her way of thinking, a hot, sexy hero never goes out of fashion. A part-time teacher and writer of sexy romance stories every other chance she gets pretty much fills her days. She has a handsome prince of a husband, and two brilliant sons to pull her back into the real world if the writing takes her too far away. Her sons know she likes to write stories, but gratefully have never asked to read any, thank God! Raine loves to hear from readers and to chat about the characters in her books.

The twist of a knife shredded Niko Kincaid’s world all around him, leaving him with two choices—accept his fate and die, or fight to live.

He chose to fight, but the aftermath became a daily reminder, carved into his once flawless flesh.

Despite years of self-imposed solitude, Niko hungers for companionship and suffers from an aching loneliness that the darkness cannot satisfy. He temporarily soothes his pain with women, hired women, whose only purpose is to service him. Easy.

He didn’t expect a complication like Cambree Evans, but desperation corrupts even the most innocent.

When emotions blend with lust, will Cambree’s softness and ability to look past Niko’s flaws be the one thing that releases him from his own personal hell?

Will the monster in the dark prove that his savaged heart is worth saving?

“I’m not scared of you,” Cambree’s voice is fragile and shaky when she finally speaks. “I’m scared of the dark.”
The admission almost brings me to my knees. I’ve never known someone to be so honest, especially in my home, where I control everything right down to the temperature, the mood, the lighting. She is not frightened because she is about to screw a complete stranger. She is simply scared of the dark like a child. Yet the thought of her being so forthcoming doesn’t irk me, it makes me feel normal, if only for a few seconds.
“I cannot help you there, Miss Evans. You see…I am the darkness. With me you have to accept that and move on. If that isn’t something you can become accustomed to, then I am afraid our business deal has ended before we gave it a chance to really blossom.”
My movement makes a creaking sound as I step forward on the hardwood floor. I can hear her breathing growing more erratic as I near. The smell of jasmine fills my nostrils. The scent is heavenly. “If you want to leave, you know where the door is.” I hope she doesn’t want to flee my presence already.
Unlike my new guest, my eyes are used to the dark. Where she fights to see me, I can see her silhouette perfectly and I use it to my advantage to drink her up. Cambree stays mute, her body swaying back and forth, her feet firmly glued to the floor.
“I don’t understand why you have the lights off. That wasn’t explained to me,” Cambree probes.
“I assume that you read our agreement very carefully?” I ask, taking another step in her direction, wondering why she is wondering such imprudent things.
“Yes. Yes, I did. But never once did it mention anything about the lights.”
My voice now exasperated drifts like fog in the air. “I hired you under the pretense that you while you’re here, with me, under my roof, you play by my rules. Rule number one, I like the lights off. I understand now, that you are frightened of the dark, and I do not wish for you to be afraid. Next time, I give you my word to try and be more accommodating to your fears. Now, shall we?”
