“How rough can you take it?
LOURDES
He was brazen as hell from the moment I laid eyes on him. He was aggressive, and dominant, with Mack truck arms, and a bar brawler voice. He was too good looking for his own good, with a hard jaw, and harder eyes.
I’d always led a fairly peaceful life, but even I could tell at a glance that this man was dangerous. For so many reasons.
Not the least of which being that rough, dirty, sheet-clawing sex fairly radiated off him.
I’d thought I’d known how to handle every kind of man, but this one left me baffled.
To say he wasn’t my type was putting it lightly.
But you couldn’t tell that to my libido.
Not even when I found out the truth.
My lover had lied to me from the very start.
Nothing about our meeting was a coincidence. This book can be read as a standalone.
Wow. It’s been a while since a book had me up reading until 2AM and then rendered me unable to fall asleep until 4am because I was just feeling a lot of feelings that wouldn’t shut off.
I don’t want to say a lot about this book although you can get a sense of it from the official summary of the book. It is a love story that kind of took my breath away from its whirlwind, scorching hot romance – the attraction and sex, the intimacy in revealing Heath’s true identity. As you try to wade through the lies and the truths you get so tangled into both their stories.
Lourdes seemed to experience more than her fair share of unfortunate relationships. The first bit of bad luck is with her ex-husband. Divorced and desperately wants to move on, Lourdes meets Heath in a casual encounter at the grocery store. Heath is a combination of creepy, sexy beast but there is something in him that makes her insides gooey. He could be wearing nothing and still cause her heart to race. (Oh Heath in nothing is… VERY STIMULATING!!!) And the moment she knows what those mouth and hands can do, and how his body feels above hers, Lourdes is a total wreck! But Heath got secrets. Dark ones… Can Lourdes trust him with her heart? Or is she just a part of his “plan”?
One of the things I love about this book is the beauty in the unraveling of Heath’s past…his secrets. It’s a book you aren’t pretty certain how it’s going to end, knocks you flat on your ass like you never saw it coming. I had this mounting dread and tension as I read wondering whether or not what is dropped in front of your face in the beginning had any bearing on the story or how it could be interpreted. It’s a magnificent love story but it’s so much more. It has R.K. Lilley’s signature writing which is always so fantastic and a main character who is just sooo complex plus a heroine who owns her sexuality and her life choices which I really loved. Exquisitely written and full of that raw and unwavering honesty that I’ve come to love from R.K.’s books. My only wish is that it would have been more interesting (and maybe grittier) if we hear Heath’s POV. Nonetheless, The Other Man is just a fantastic read that I highly recommend. The way Ms. Lilley completely immersed you into the story is just phenomenal. The underlying mystery that constantly makes you feel like something wasn’t right not to mention the great cast of characters that makes you doubt the whole time because you aren’t quite sure if you can trust them. Twisty in all the right places, tension that feels palpable makes this book really unique and one-click worthy!
P.S. I recommend to read The Wild Side trilogy first to have a bit of a background of the characters.
Thank you for the chance. I’m a die hardestest fan of R K lilley. I have all her paperbacks, having read and reread her Up In The Air at least 11 times ?
