Lawrence Finkle, known simply to his die-hard Minnesota Wild fans as Viper, isn’t used to hearing the word no. He lives his whole life just a little on the reckless side. After all, life is just one big game, right?

Wrong.

When what was supposed to be an innocent bet goes horribly wrong, he’s left to deal with the aftermath— and the guilt. In an effort to make things right the best way he can, he ends up falling for the one person on the planet he never should have.

The old saying goes that two wrongs don’t make a right . . . or do they?

review

Viper is cracking more than ice in his spin off novel, Cement Heart. An emotional look into this gentle giant will have readers grabbing for the closest tissue box. When the unthinkable occurs, Viper finds that his strength on the ice is no match for the reality of his everyday life.

Cement Heart is truly Viper’s story, his journey to find the man within. We do get a glimpse of his heroin’s point of view but this story is fueled by Viper. His relationships, his growth, and his struggles all roll into an emotional roller coaster ride. Knowing that there is heart behind the the ruff playboy gives hope that even the toughest nut can crack.

I enjoyed Viper’s story. Beth brought light to a difficult situation. Viper created relationships with several characters that were touching, yet complex and I enjoyed seeing these relationships grow. They allowed for a deeper look inside Viper’s head. The subject matter was not the easiest to deal with but Beth found the right mix of laughter and sorrow. Cement Heart can be read as a standalone but for the full effect I recommend reading Beth’s Cranberry Inn series first. If you are already a Ehemann fan then dive in and enjoy.

This book! It caused so many feels to take over my mind, my heart and my soul. It has been a long time since a book has emotionally wrecked me like this one did. I love books like this. Emotionally draining and in the end my broken heart was put back together and was overflowing with happiness. I cannot begin to express how wonderful and truly beautiful this story is. You need to read it for yourself to experience the emotions that Beth’s writing evokes.

I was so excited to see Viper get his own book. I slowly fell in love with him in the Cranberry Inn Series. I had no idea where his story would lead, and this was nowhere close to what I would’ve envisioned. It was ten times better. I fell so hard for Viper. I cried so much for him and Michelle that I look like I had an allergic reaction to a bee sting or some sh**. Again, I love books that can put me in a panic. One that I hold my breath while reading. One that I curse the author for making me feel this way. And one that I sing their praises at the end for making me feel this way.

I am not going to go into details about the story. That’s not my job. I think you can grasp from my review that I loved this story. A whole hell of a lot. So read it. Grab the tissues, and a glass of wine and be prepared for the emotional roller coaster ride of your life. I promise you that you’ll feel all kinds of wonderful emotions and fall in love as much as I have. Bravo, Beth!

I don’t know what kind of voodoo god Beth Ehemann connects with to write these amazingly perfect books but damn its working! Cement Heart is AHHH-MAZING! Beth’s writing makes me feel like I’ve never felt these feelings before but at the same time it resonates with me so, so deeply. I was completely rendered speechless after reading Viper’s story and it just keeps simmering in my mind long after I finished it.

Grief is a really hard thing to explain, as someone who has grieved a devastating loss myself, but somehow Beth just nailed it!  I’ve read a lot of books dealing with grief but few come close to the kind of ache I had in this book. Soul-crushing pain, GUILT and CONFUSION. I feel like my heart was shattered a hundred times…just brilliantly and right through the heart. The emotions and the little truths just really hit me.

And while I want to curse Beth for breaking my heart, I also want to thank her for giving me Viper. He is one of the best characters that will always make my heart flip flop just thinking about him. Charming, funny, confident, playful but with a heart of gold. I just adore him and my heart broke for him as he tried to overcome the situation. I know he didn’t mean for it to go as far as it did and he didn’t mean to get so close. Surely, he didn’t mean to fall in love…but he did. And it was the most painful yet amusing part of the story. #DaggerToTheHeart

I DEVOURED IT. I LIVED IT. I BAWLED. I LAUGHED. I FELL IN LOVE. My heart tore and twisted in ways that only a special book like this can do to you. I’m honestly afraid to reread it for the reasons I explain here but considering the kind of masochist that I am, I probably do another round.

Cement Heart was everything and more. A beautiful and gut-wrenching story of loss, the enduring bonds of family and friendship amidst tragedy and the kind of healing that can only come with the help of the ones we love.

Another winning masterpiece, Beth! Great job.
