From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in her beloved Rosemary Beach series, which continues the story of Mase and Reese from When I’m Gone.
The future is bright for Reese Ellis. She has Mase Colt-Manning, the man of her dreams, and a family she didn’t know existed until her long-lost father arrived on her doorstep in Rosemary Beach. After growing up with a cruel mother and abusive stepfather, Reese is eager to get to know the caring and charming man who wants to be a part of her life. Everything is finally falling into place.
While Reese is visiting her new family in Chicago, Mase spends time with his “cousin,” Aida, who has worshipped him since childhood. Though they’re unrelated by blood, Mase and Aida have been raised to think of each other as family. But when Reese returns, she can tell something isn’t quite right with Aida, who clearly resents Reese and excels at manipulative little games. And though Mase is unsuspecting, Reese knows Aida doesn’t love him like a cousin should...
Mase and Reese are back to complete their story that started with When I’m Gone. Left with a shocked ending, I was unsure of where these two would end up.
“She laughed again, making everything in my life feel perfect. She was what I had been waiting for. Everything before her had been dull, including the girls. No one had made me feel the excitement of waking up every morning and seeing her face. Or going to bed every night with her in my arms.”
After returning home to Mase, Reese finds that there is another woman in his life. Aida! Oh she is trouble with a capitol T. Think of her as a mini Nan! You got the picture? She is a mess and hell bent on ruining the Mase/Reese love affair. Little does she know that her evil holds no power with these two.
“Do you see me? This man in front of you will love you until the day he dies. You’re my one, Reese. My one.”
Reese still holds her “Bambi” like innocence. Taking on new challenges and learning to deal daily. Mase is pure male, viewing the world with blinders on. Drama hits them both from all angles. Will love win or will the shattered mirror leave them with seven years bad luck?
Following in its Rosemary Beach predecessors, I enjoyed the read while feeling attached to the characters. I adore Mase! Abbi has a formula that works. I know what to expect from Abbi and I will continue to be a fan of books to come. If you haven’t read When I’m Gone be sure to pick that one up first before diving into this one.
