When Kennedy Ryan moves to California, she never expects to come face-to-face with Liam Taylor—the intriguing man who has haunted her thoughts for a year. A man who led her to breaking every one of her rules for a single night of passion that ended up meaning more than it was ever supposed to. Accustomed to disastrous experiences with men, Kennedy shields herself before he can break down more of the carefully built control she’s clung to for the last four years. But every time she sees Liam, she feels her resolve weakening.

Liam Taylor has been asked to help socialize his boss’s nieces. But what he thinks sounds more like a babysitting job ends up leading him to the only girl who ever slipped away before morning—a girl he thought he’d never find again. About Molly McAdams

Molly grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry four-legged daughters. When she’s not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach … which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and fried pickles, and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm … or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.

Book Trailers: Yay or Nyay?

Unknown

We all know the effect that a well-done movie trailer can have on moviegoers. From the nerve-wracking ones that make your heart pound in that 30 second time frame to the ones that make you want to wet your pants because it looks sensual or it looks funny. The effect is noticeable as you can hear murmurs of “I’ve got to see that movie” or “wow that looks so good.”

A good trailer is key. They’ve got minutes or even seconds to entice you with carefully chosen snips that are in the perfect order to the perfect music and perfect words. They’ve got to show off their materials to woo you and make sure you’ll be in those same seats on the opening day.

But what about for books?

Book trailers are similar to movie trailers that are designed to generate interest in a particular book. It seems a lot of our dear authors are now using it to spice up their book promotions because let’s admit it, marketing is a dubious endeavor.

Evidently someone thought that book trailers are good marketing idea especially for the wired generation where “YouTube-ing” and thirst for all things visual are always present. So why not hook your audience in a different way?

Admittedly, call me bias but YES, I enjoy watching them making them. It reminds of the different emotions I felt while reading the book. I remember one of my friends mentioned that she hated trailers, in fact hated any kind of image about what might be in the story. For me, I love seeing how another person sees it. It thrills me everytime to know that a reader views it the same way I do. But overall, it’s the words, the music and storytelling that appealed to me. So my question is…

Do you like book trailers? Do you watch them? Do they ever make you decide to buy a book? Which ones have you found to be done really well and memorable?

And for authors, do you find them to be an effective marketing tool? Would you consider having one?

Today, I am so excited to welcome three of my friends and I consider some of the best book trailer makers we have now. Let’s get to know them better and find out how they started in book trailer making.

Welcome to the blog Becca, Heather and Kristy!

A Very Merry Murphy Christmas

“Emma.” Brody sighed. “For the fifty-seventh time, leave the tree alone.”

I peeked over the kitchen counter just in time to see Emma sit back on her knees and grin widely at Brody as he walked over and gently took an ornament out of her hand. He kissed the top of her curly-haired head and hung the ornament back toward the top of the tree. “Actually…” he said under his breath, tilting his head to the side as he stared at the tree.

“What are you doing?” I smiled to myself as I watched him take all the ornaments, one by one, from the bottom half of the tree and squeeze them into the top half.

“There.” He stepped back after putting the last ornament up and admired his work. Turning to face me, he proudly gave me the same big grin that our daughter had been blessed with. “Now she can’t take them off and eat them.” He scooped her up in his arms and walked into the kitchen.

I leaned to my right and looked at our sad-looking tree. The bottom part was bare except for the few rows of lights he hadn’t been able to move up, and the branches at the top were all weighed down by too many ornaments.

“Wow. Eat your heart out, Charlie Brown,” I teased playfully.

“Hey, it might not look like much, but at least now she’ll quit pulling ornaments off and eating them. I’m so worried she’s gonna choke.”

Emma laid her head down on Brody’s chest and smiled at me as if she knew what he’d just said.

I reached out and tucked a rebellious curl behind her ear. “You have your daddy wrapped around your little finger, don’t you?” She sat up quickly and shot her arms out, innocently leaping into my arms.

Pulling her in close, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath of her hair. She still had that baby smell that I loved so much. “Can you believe she’s already nine months old? Where did the time go?”

“I know.” Brody sounded a little sad. He planted another kiss on her chubby cheek and walked over, opening the fridge. “This baby thing takes a little getting used to. She moves faster than some of the guys on the ice.”

“She is a little stinker sometimes, huh?” I agreed.

The fifth book in the New York Times new adult series that began with Real. When an angry, heartbroken girl is forced to be near her rocker ex-boyfriend, only time will tell if the fire between them will consume them both.Pandora, the gothic friend of Brooke (Real, Mine, Remy) and Melanie (Rogue), thought that getting her heart broken by her bad boy rocker ex could only happen once. But now, he’s back in town with the biggest concert of the year. Pandora hates him so much that she gets Melanie to come with her and play a prank on him at his gig. But when they’re caught by security, and her ex himself is summoned, Pandora is not prepared for the feelings that seeing him again—beautiful and in the flesh—awaken in her. She’s also wholly unprepared for the conditions his manager sets in order for her and Melanie to be released; especially since these conditions only allow Melanie to return home, while at the same time, they put Pandora in perilously close contact with her ex again. The torturous physical closeness between them reignites the passion they once shared, and soon no matter how much she wants to hate him, it’s clear she’s still hung up on him. And worse: he knows it too.

The floor is yours, Jen!
~~~~~
Hi! I’m Jen Oreto.
I’m a lover of words. I started reading two years ago and haven’t stopped. I love talking about books, book boyfriends and really want to start a Wine Book Club to combine my two loves.
My top five books (series) The Proposition Series by Katie Ashley, The Black Falcon Series by Michelle A. Valentine, Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan, Fifty Shades Trilogy by E.L. James and Gabriel’s Inferno Series by Sylvain Reynard
I met a blog owner at an authors meet and greet. I messaged her and said, “Hey, can I write a review for your blog?” I spent a year blogging with that blog and loved it. I had so much fun and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. I love interacting with fellow book lovers the most. Blogging has brought some great people into my life. True friendships that I’m so thankful for.
I’m so excited to be joining the wonderful ladies here at The Book Avenue Review. I know these ladies personally, and have always followed the blog and their reviews. I’m really looking forward to sharing my reviews with you all. I read everything, YA, Contemporary, Erotic, M/M, New Adult, and I’ve been known to fall in love with shifters, vampires and werewolves.
My plans for the future are more of a dream. I started a book over a year ago, and I would love nothing more than to finish it. Maybe someday (which is an awesome book). I’d also love to continue blogging. I like telling the world about the books I read. Some books are worth more than just reading. Some you have to stand on the rooftops and shout about.
