Genres: Dark Romance

Emily enjoys all the perks of fame—the parties, the glamour, the tours—but they’ve brought her back to the attention of a dangerous ex-boyfriend hell bent on getting her back.

Enter Carter Kincaid, a bodyguard so crushingly sexy he takes her breath away.

Carter’s the best in the business and Emily is—professionally speaking—off-limits. But when it comes to stirring his desires, she’s hitting all the right notes. What’s happening between them is so hot it could get both of them burned. As Emily’s past gets closer, Carter is willing to break every rule of the job to save her. But letting Emily into his life also means letting her in on the secrets of his own past. For both of them, falling in love could be the greatest risk of all.

Bodyguard is written with subtlety. A subtlety that gives the reader a sense of ease and comfort. Reiss’ words settle you in–right up until she wants you to realize you’re on the edge of something big, beautiful, and at times scary and new. Carter and Emily are incredibly sexy. Their chemistry is undeniable. Carter is alpha in all the right ways. He is thoughtful, protective, and stalwart. Emily is a heroine I can root for. She is independent, loyal and relatable. I found Carter and Emily, while vastly different, share many important traits. The story twists and turns, and it was those moments that left me feeling a more profound connection not just to Carter and Emily but also to Darlene and Phin.

What I love most about this story is that no one pretends to have all the answers. Their lives and relationships are flawed and at times messy. I found this story to be about showing up—for yourself and for those you love, through the good and bad. When instinct and experience tell you to retreat you find the strength to regroup and advance.

Bodyguard is a powerful seduction, Reiss builds intimacy and connection that is deep and lasting. I adore CD Reiss’ writing and hope to continue to read her for many years. A must read.

About CD Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
